Joel comes from the city of Rocky and cheesesteaks, Philadelphia, USA.  He has been living in Thailand on and off since 2010, when he started a Peace Corps assignment to volunteer in development of a rural Thai village.  After completing his assignment, he worked for some years in his chosen field of finance.  But he decided to take a break from a life of adjusting spreadsheets in order to complete his professional dive training, as diving was his favorite hobby since he got certified at age sixteen.  Since becoming a PADI Instructor in 2015, Joel has certified hundreds of students from Open Water through Divemaster.  While working in Ao Nang, he achieved the PADI IDC Staff Instructor rating to help teach the IDC program for prospective instructors.  Joel has worked extensively in Southeast Asia, mainly in Thailand and Philippines.  He met his wife Meggy in Koh Tao, Thailand, where they decided to pursue their dream of opening a diving school.  You can read a bit more about our story here.

Meggy is from Milan, Italy.  In her former life she managed an upscale wine shop as a professional sommeliere.  She got hooked on diving during her year-long working holiday in Australia, where she worked on a liveaboard boat in the Great Barrier Reef as Head Chef and Snorkel Guide.  She did her Divemaster Training in Koh Tao, Thailand.  Upon completion she worked for a year as Head Divemaster for New Way Diving.  In addition to normal Divemaster duties, she assisted Instructors on many courses.  Because of her natural ability to calm new and panicked divers, her manager asked her to help in this BBC Travel documentary.  In Ao Nang, Meggy completed the IDC to become an Open Water Scuba Instructor.  She and Joel opened Sea Gypsy Divers so together they could help more people get over their fear and become certified divers.  She also plans to start a program for physically disabled individuals to help increase their quality of life through diving.  Please click here to read more about our story and what plans we have for the future.
